About Me.
MY PATH
I was born in Minnesota and raised in the Maryland/D.C. area. I attended the University of Maryland (Go Terps!) where I received my dual B.A. in Spanish and English. After, I lived in the port city of Galicia, Spain and taught English to students age 2-12 for a year. I moved back to the U.S. and taught 6-8 Spanish and 3rd grade homeroom for two years in a Catholic school just outside D.C. I received my Masters degree in Secondary English Education at Wake Forest University in 2015, then moved to Istanbul, Turkey to teach English immersion. Upon return, I moved to Nashville (yes, I have a lot of frequent flier points) and have been dedicated to Grade 5 ELA since!
MY BELIEF
I truly believe ELA is the great equalizer. If a young person can master the art of reading, writing, speaking, and listening, with a critical eye, they can attain whatever station they want in life. They can and will rock the boat of their community in the greatest ways. Equally important, they can achieve empathy for humanity, they will be able to see outside their set experiences and see through the eyes of others.
MY WHOLE PERSON
I am an outdoor exercise enthusiast, a "dog person", a foodie, and a traveler. Above all, I am a sister to two brothers, an aunt to three wild and wonderful tots, a daughter to my incredibly selfless parents, and a friend. I am honored to be able to teach and grow 5th grade students from spirited kids into young adults with a voice in their lives and community.
